Welcome

Thank you for your interest in how I can serve the Township of Madawaska Valley as Councillor. Last summer there was a vacancy in council and I ran for council. The issues then included the erosion of democracy as over 60% of council meetings were closed, when compared to 15% of other local council meetings across the province. Other concerns included the amalgamation, water & sewage costs, affordable garbage pick-up for rate payers, partnerships with Renfrew County to facilitate government transfer payments/better funding distribution and, advocacy at provincial and federal levels in partnership with our elected officials. Fortunately or unfortunately the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) conducted an investigation of our council due to community dissatisfaction with how council conducted itself. While some of these issues continue to be of concern there are other key issues (click here) that need to be addressed. Ultimately, the OMB says that we your elected council is accountable for our actions. I am honoured to be elected as your councillor.  I will be accountable and hold others accountable through transparent proceedings, and protocols that protect the public interest of rate payers. I will fight for the mutual respect of all those at the table through the tools of mediation, negotiation and due process for public input. As a registered Social Worker I bring strong listening skills. As an active community person I bring commitment and hard work. As an elected Councillor I bring strong experience in government and strategic planning with a vision and approach that respects YOU -- the expertise, experience and ideas that you bring to the table!

The Issues:

  • Budget management that promotes a sustainability of important local services to rate payers and the efficient & transparent use of funds.
  • Monitoring water waste costs and ensuring that a cost-effective and fair approach is used to manage the system.
  • Expanding the promotion of tourism in a way to increases revenue community wide.
  • Managing the risk of change with protocols so that the community benefits without harm to health i.e., Smart Meters, Cell Towers.
  • Advocating for change that benefits the community at provincial and federal government levels, working with our local MP and MPP to be effective.
  • Hydro costs advocating for change and educating the public.
